Reading the mountain...

About This Station

The weather station sits on Fancy Gap Mountain, above the Blue Ridge Parkway crossing at milepost 199.4, at approximately 3,000 feet elevation. It measures temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction, barometric pressure, UV index, and precipitation.

Data updates every few minutes, providing a real-time window into conditions on the mountain. At this elevation, expect afternoons roughly 5 to 10 degrees cooler than the Piedmont below — and nights that sometimes run warmer, when cold air drains off the ridge and pools in the valleys.

The station has been monitoring the fog's behavior, learning its patterns, watching as it gathers and releases its grip on the ridge.
